From Festival Director, Tim Coker and Patron, Dame Judi Dench:
Bradfield Festival is a public arts festival built around a programme of educational enrichment. In addition to a stellar line-up of public shows including world-class comedy, music and theatre, Bradfield Festival also has over 50 creative workshops for children running throughout the week – from learning to dance flamenco to live sports commentary; from creative writing to sculpture; from fashion to stained glass window making. All of these workshops are completely free of charge, not only to every single Bradfield pupil, but also to children from schools all over West Berkshire – workshops which are, in part, funded by ticket sales from our public shows. Many of our world-class visiting artists are here throughout the festival, working with pupils and performing alongside them in public evening shows. Unique, once in a lifetime experiences – playing with The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, stomping with Stomp workshops, singing with G4 – lie at the heart of the festival and make this one of the most ambitious and exciting educational arts festivals in the country.
“I am very proud to be Artistic Director of this, the inaugural Bradfield Festival. I hope that your experience at the festival inspires you – to go to an opera, to sing in a choir, to write a review, to paint, to dance, to learn a new musical instrument, to…
After all, education is about inspiring people. So go on, get creative and try something new.”
Dr Tim Coker, Artistic Director
“The way to get young people involved and interested in the theatre and the arts is to provide exciting works for them to see. I have no doubt that Festival Director, Dr. Tim Coker will succeed in doing this at Bradfield as he has at previous festivals, where I first met him. I wish him every success and I am sure there will be exciting times ahead…”
